What Is Stump Grinding?
Stump grinding is the safe removal of leftover tree stumps by grinding them below ground level. It eliminates trip hazards, prevents regrowth, and leaves the area ready for replanting, landscaping, or construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?
Stump grinding uses a grinder to reduce the stump to wood chips below ground level. Full stump removal involves extracting the entire root ball, which is more disruptive and costly. For most residential properties, grinding is the practical and cost-effective solution.
How deep do you grind the stump?
We grind to a depth appropriate for the intended use of the area. For lawn reinstatement, that is typically 150 to 200mm below ground level. For replanting or construction, we can grind deeper on request.
Will the tree grow back after stump grinding?
No. Grinding below the root collar prevents regrowth and stops new shoots from forming. If any surface roots are producing suckers, we can address those as part of the job.
What happens to the wood chips after grinding?
The wood chips and grindings are cleared from the site as part of the service. If you would like to keep the mulch for garden use, just let us know and we will leave it on site for you.
Can you grind stumps in tight or confined spaces?
Yes. We use equipment suited to confined areas including narrow side gates, sloped blocks, and garden beds. If you are unsure whether your site is accessible, get in touch and we will assess it before quoting.
